Police use spike belt to end high-speed chase

Officers had to deploy a spike belt to stop a man fleeing from police, reaching speeds of up to 180 km/h on Highway 69, said the Ontario Provincial Police. Officer conducting radar on March 22 attempted to stop a northbound vehicle for speeding.

Officer conducting radar on March 22 attempted to stop a northbound vehicle for speeding. The driver refused, and fled at a high rate of speed.

He continued driving in an erratic manner and at a high rate of speed. A spike belt was deployed at Whipporwhill Avenue, which brought the driver to a stop.

A 48-year-old Sudbury man is charged with flight while pursued by police officers, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and driving while disqualified.
