Sometime during the overnight weekend hours of Nov. 21-22, a vandal spray-painted the word "scab" on the garage door of a Hanmer resident.

The word was written large enough to be seen from the street, confirmed Greater Sudbury police constable Bert Lapalme.

He confirmed that the police had been called to deal with a mischief complaint, but indicated that at this time, there were no suspect, nor would he confirm any tie to the labour dispute between Vale Inco and the local Steelworkers union, who have been on strike since July.

"Things have been going fairly well (with the strike)," said Lapalme, noting that while the incident itself is serious enough, the police don't want it taken out of context.
