A 24-year-old man has been charged with failing to remain at the scene of the accident and failing to report an accident after he confessed to knocking over a light standard at the intersection of Paris and Centennial Streets Feb. 10.

Officers came upon a downed light standard during the evening of Feb. 10, and determined that the standard had been knocked clear of its base as a result of a motor vehicle accident. The driver and suspect vehicle were long gone.

During the evening of Feb. 11, officers responded to a complaint of a stolen vehicle in the New Sudbury area. The subsequent investigation led the officers to link the two incidents.

The man who had originally attempted to report his vehicle stolen quickly confessed to knocking over the light standard.
