An elderly woman was the victim of a home invasion Saturday evening.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., police were called to a Barry Street address in response to a call from the 83-year-old occupant, advising that a young male had entered her residence through an unlocked door and demanded money.

The woman was not injured physically as a result of this home invasion.

The male left the residence after receiving an undisclosed amount of money, and also took the victim's phone.

Numerous police units responded to the area and a K-9 track was conducted with negative results in an attempt to locate the male.

The suspect is described as a male in his early 20s, wearing a white mask covering his face with some red colouring in the area of the nose, long pants and a black ball cap on backwards. No other description of the suspect or clothing is available.

As the weather improves, police ask if people are leaving their doors open, that they be locked to create an obstacle to easy entry into homes.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Criminal Investigations Division.
