The Kal Tire Sudbury Junior Wolves are now in second place in the Eastern division of the NOJHL after defeating the Abitibi Eskimos 4-3 in a shoot-out Wednesday night at the Garson Arena.

The teams were tied for second going into the game after the Junior Wolves beat North Bay 8-5 at last weeks home game.

The first period got off slow as neither team saw the score board. The second period started off in the Eskimos favour as Jean-Bernard Gagnon got on the score board for Abitibi just over two minutes in.

Matt St. Jacques followed suit for the Eskimos leading the team 2-0 over the Junior Wolves. Chris Pontes scored for Sudbury on a power-play with assists by Evan Daciuk and Jeff Verreault, at the 10:27 mark.

Eskimos Jason Robin followed it up and Devin Lockeyer for the Junior Wolves saw the back of the net late in the second with assists by Chris Kangas and Luc Comtois.

Chris Pontes tied it up for the Junior Wolves on a power-play in the third, marking his second goal of the night with assists by captain Jordan Cheechoo and Evan Daciuk.

Chris Kangas scored the game winning goal in a shoot-out claiming victory over the Eskimo and second place in their division standings.

"I thought Abitibi outplayed us for the first two periods, they were hungrier, but we found a way to win and that's always good," said Junior Wolves head coach David Clancy.

"Joey held the fort well. I think Joey deserved a lot of credit for the win tonight," Clancy said of his goaltender who made 27 saves in net that game.

The Junior Wolves have won four consecutive games and are now five points behind the North Bay Skyhawks who are currently in first place.

The Junior Wolves will take on the Temiscaming Royals on the road on Friday before hosting the Royals at the Garson Arena Oct. 28 at 8 p.m.
