A number of LU athletes, including members of the women's basketball team, were honoured for their academic achievement.

Laurentian student-athletes have once again attained made the grade, this time literally with 30 Voyageurs and Lady Vees being named CIS Academic All-Canadians or OUA Academic Achievement Award winners.

Out of seven teams that compete at the CIS level, a total of 26 student-athletes achieved academic all-Canadian status, while four student-athletes from the three teams that compete at the OUA level were awarded academic achievement awards for their efforts in the classroom during the 2007-08 varsity season.

To become an academic all-Canadian student-athletes must maintain a grade point average of 80-per cent or better while playing at least one recognized CIS varsity sport, while the OUA academic achievement award is given to student-athletes who obtain the same grade point average, but compete in sports that only have OUA championships.

Laurentian's top student-athlete was Lady Vees basketball player Amy Solc (Brockville, Ont.), who attained the highest academic average of any Voyageur or Lady Vee.

The biggest story among this year's winners from Laurentian is the name Emily Pearson (Keene, Ont.), who made the grade even after suffering severe injuries after being hit by a car on February 16th.
