The Laurentian University cross-country running team has added more firepower for the 2005-06 season.

NCAA athlete Meghan Juuti has joined the squad.

Juuti is a transfer student from Lake Superior State University where she ran for both the cross-country team and the track-and-field team. A native of Elliot Lake, Juuti led Lake Superior all season, finishing as the school's top female competitor in races.

Juuti had an outstanding high school career, which saw her place 23rd at the 2003 Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) cross-country running championships. As well, Juuti finished seventh in the 2003 OFSAA 1,500-metre race and ninth in the 3,000-metre race.

"Meghan has tremendous potential and she's highly motivated," said head coach Dick Moss in a news release. "I worked with her two years ago as a club athlete, so she already knows our system. Meghan's goal this fall will be the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Championships in November and the Canadian Junior Championships in December."
