The Laurentian golf team has had a fairly successful season to date, but are looking to capture their first OUA title at the Crosswinds Golf club in Burlington, Ontario this Monday and Tuesday.

This championship is the biggest tournament of the year and the top three teams will qualify for the CIS championships in the spring.

The Voyageurs are coming off a great second place finish at the Laurier Invitational, which gives them confidence heading into this event.

Crosswinds Golf Club is a very similar layout to Rebel Creek where the Voyageurs excelled last week.

The layout is a little shorter, playing at 6500 yards and is a par 72 which means lots of great scoring opportunities.

Matt Bortolotto (Sudbury, Ont.) is fresh of his first tournament win as a Voyageur and will be a big part if the team hopes to be successful. John Atherton (Toronto) is looking to get back to his consistent form this week and should be a threat for the individual title.

Yves Fraser (Val Caron, Ont.) is coming into this tournament on a high from his top 10 performance at the Laurier Invitational and believes he is only getting better. Max Kallio (Lively, Ont.) and Shawn Lahaie (Alban, Ont.) will be leading the Voyageurs into battle and want to post a solid score to take some pressure off the rest of the team.

The Ottawa Gee-Gees are the defending champions and are looking to repeat this year at Crosswinds. The Western Mustangs have won two of the last three tournaments on the OUA schedule and are the favourites entering this week. Even though the Voyageurs have not won any tournaments this year, they believe there is no reason why they can not be successful this week.

"We have a very good chance of winning as all members are at the peak of their potential," said head coach Paul Schweyer, in a release. "A top three finish is very realistic."

The Voyageurs were set to tee off this morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Crosswinds golf Club in Burlington, Ontario. Day two of the event will be Tuesday.
