Wolves reel in the Steelheads with back-to-back victories

Sudbury wins game two 6-5 over Mississauga in overtime, takes 2-0 series lead

Sudbury Wolves forward, Kocha Delic, completed his first career OHL playoff hat trick 2:33 into the first overtime period to give the Wolves the victory in game two by a score of 6-5.

The Sudbury Wolves and the Mississauga Steelheads faced off in Game two of Round one of the Ontario Hockey League Playoffs on March 30, taking the match to overtime to win 6-5. With the Wolves winning game one 3-0, the best -of-seven series now sits at 2-0.

Jakub Vondras got the start in goal for the Wolves for a second straight game while the Steelheads once again went with Ryerson Leenders in goal. 

Angus MacDonnell got the scoring started for the Steelheads with his first of the playoffs 2:22 into the game to give Mississauga an early 1-0 lead. 

Kocha Delic for the Wolves scored on the power play just over seven minutes into the first period, his first goal of the playoffs, to tie the game 1-1. 

Just over two minutes later former Wolf Marc Boudreau scored his first of the playoffs to restore the Steelheads one goal lead at 2-1. 

At the 13:14 mark of the first, the Steelheads scored a power play goal thanks to Chas Sharpe’s first goal of the playoffs, giving the Steelheads a 3-1 lead after the first 20 minutes of play. 

Evan Konyen pulled the Wolves within a goal with 11:03 remaining in the second period making the score 3-2 for the Steelheads. 

With 10:43 to go in the middle frame, Luke Misa scored his first of the postseason to give Mississauga a 4-2 lead. 

With just under six minutes remaining in the second, Wolves Captain and Seattle Kraken prospect David Goyette scored his first goal of the playoffs to make the score 4-3 for Mississauga with one period remaining in regulation. 

It wasn’t until there was 9:18 remaining in the third period that the first goal of the period was scored, with Delic’s second goal of the game for the Wolves, to tie the score at 4-4. 

With under three minutes remaining in regulation, the Steelheads grabbed the lead once again thanks to Lucas Karmiris’ first goal of the playoffs to make the score 5-4 for Mississauga. 

With just 1:07 remaining in regulation Konyen put the puck in the back of the net for his second goal of the game to tie the game for Sudbury 5-5 and send the game into overtime. 

Delic completed his first career Ontario Hockey League playoff hat trick 2:33 into the first overtime period to give the Wolves the victory in game two by a score of 6-5. 

The Sudbury Wolves now lead the best-of-seven series 2-0 over the Mississauga Steelheads and now head home for Games three and four, starting with Game three taking place on Monday, April 1 with a scheduled start time of 7:05 p.m.
