Teen charged with 2nd degree murder in downtown stabbing death
An 18-year-old has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with Sudbury a stabbing that took place Friday on Cedar Street downtown. Steffin Rees is also charged with drug possession, Sudbury police said Monday. Rees is charged with killing 17-year-old Preston Pellerin, as has been reported by other media, and that Sudbury.com has confirmed. His friends have set up a Facebook page — Memorial of Preston Pellerin — to pay tribute to Pellerin, and gathered en masse Saturday at the spot where he was killed.

Fire destroys Chelmsford barn
Greater Sudbury Fire Services continue to investigate the cause of a barn fire in Chelmsford on Sunday evening. Platoon chief Chris Stokes said four stations were called out to the blaze at McKenzie Road and Highway 144 in Chelmsford on Nov. 17 between 9 and 10 p.m. He said a barn on the property was fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived. The barn had to be demolished, owner Cassandra LeClair told Sudbury.com.
The fire claimed the lives of four guineafowls and a rooster. An RV, boats and a storage unit were all but destroyed, LeClair told Sudbury.com, while a garage was damaged. The fire service hasn't determined the cause of the fire yet.

Garson man claims $50K lottery prize
Guy Bergeron of Garson is $50,000 richer after claiming second prize in the Oct. 23 Ontario 49 draw. Bergeron matched five numbers plus the bonus number to win the prize. “I scanned my ticket at the same store I bought it,” the 63-year-old retiree told staff at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto when he picked up his cheque. “I was shocked!”
Work of young Sudbury climate activist Sophia Mathur honoured in Ottawa
A 12-year-old Sudbury girl who was one of the first young people on the planet to join the #FridaysForFuture movement has been presented with an award by Canada’s national museum of natural history and natural sciences. For more than a year, Sophia Mathur has been striking once a month on Fridays in solidarity with 16-year-old Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg. Since then, youth from around the world have joined the movement. The Museum of Nature presented Sophia with a Nature Inspiration award in the youth category.
HSN ranked one of Canada’s top 40 research hospitals
Health Sciences North, and its affiliate the Health Sciences North Research Institute, are ranked among Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals for a sixth consecutive year by RE$EARCH Infosource. "We are very proud of this accomplishment as a leading academic health sciences centre, at the core of Northern Ontario’s innovation health cluster," said HSN in a news release. "This cluster includes Laurentian University, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Lakehead University and the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and its research institute.

Bulldogs need OT to squeak by Sudbury in high-scoring match
The Sudbury Wolves faced off against the Hamilton Bulldogs at Sudbury Arena on Sunday, hoping to finish off their one loss, one win homestand on a high note. Hamilton opened up the event in the first period, launching the teams into a nearly shot-for-shot battle that kept both goaltenders on the edge of their net. In the end, it all came down to a heavy-handed performance by Hamilton in the second period, which built up enough of a lead to carry the visitors to an 11-10 final in overtime.
