City's jobless rate dips to 5%, lowest in more than a decade
Greater Sudbury's unemployment rate fell to 5 per cent in July, StatsCan reported Friday, one of the lowest rates decades. The jobless rate dropped from 5.3 per cent in June, even though the city actually shed about 500 jobs but that was more than offset by a drop in the size of the labour force – the number of people looking for work. StatsCan calculates the rate by comparing the number of people working with the number of people looking for a job. Read the full story here.

Historical mystery: Just how many people were buried at the old Coniston cemetery?
In 1926, the French Catholic parish in Coniston announced that it could no longer care for the community's small cemetery, located on a plot of land behind the Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci church. The somewhat confusing history of the cemetery — and the fact that it has mostly been reclaimed by the wilderness — has made it challenging to know exactly many people were buried there between 1914 and 1926. Grave markers have vanished, records are unclear, loved ones have moved on. Now, 22 years after a memorial was erected at the Coniston Cemetery honouring 115 people buried at the site, the Coniston Historical Group has returned to the hunt, this time, with technology on their side. GLP picking up, somewhat, where Team Chiro left off
Team Chiro has morphed into Team Engineero - or so it seems. True, the team that owed its very genesis to a group of Sudbury and area chiropractors who initially gathered to compete at the newly-launched Sudbury Dragonboat Festival had been gradually transformed, over time, to a much more diverse squad, one which included more than a few engineers prior to sailing into the sunset, not all that long ago. A compromise season to close the books for Andrea Zulich
Back in May of this year, Andrea Zulich wasn't anywhere close to 100 per cent sure of what the fall might hold in store. A graduate of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School and four-year member of the Laurentian Voyageurs women's basketball team, Zulich had completed her studies within the Sports Administration program at L.U. Her love of basketball remained, but it was offset, on her opposite shoulder, with that little voice suggesting that it was perhaps time to move forward in search of a career.
