A cigarette discarded in a bluebox located outside of a West End home caused $2,000 in fire damage to the building's exterior.

Platoon Chief Andre Groulx said the materials in the bluebox caught fire, and the blaze spread to the Gutcher Avenue detached dwelling's siding.

The fire, which occurred a little after the noon hour April 14, was confined to the building's exterior. Thirteen firefighters from two fire stations responded to the fire.
