Halloween is almost here and if you are looking for an interactive experience, and one with a local tie, head to the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and Heritage Centre (NORMHC) for what they are calling the “most anticipated escape room experience”.

In fact, you can enjoy a whole zombie-filled weekend in Capreol from Oct. 27-29.

Produced in partnership with Trimuse Entertainment, the experience is based on the R.L. Stine novel “Zombie Town” and film of the same name, which was filmed in 2022 in various locations in Capreol and the Sudbury area

The filming of the movie was a big deal locally as it brought comedy giants Dan Ackroyd and Chevy Chase to the city. Sudbury.com had the chance to speak with both iconic performers during their 2022 visit. You can check that out here.

The Zombie Town escape experience features an interactive theatrical/escape room-style experience for visitors.

The story will follow the movie theme of a zombie attack in a small town. Visitors will enter three railway cars: the baggage car, the school car, and the caboose, as they find clues and solve a series of puzzles to escape before being attacked by zombies.

“We are so excited to host a new Halloween event this year and are pleased to work alongside Trimuse Entertainment and Cast North on this great community partnership,” said Joanne Bowers in a release from NORMHC.  “Local cast and crew from the movie will also be a part of the event.”

“Capreol made a perfect backdrop for the small town feel we needed,” said John Gillespie, president and producer with Trimuse Entertainment, which produced the film. Of the event, he said “We can't wait to see what they have created.”

The Zombie Train Escape Room, which runs 30 minutes, runs Oct. 28 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Oct. 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.. All children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Tickets for the escape room are $14 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, $6 for children 5-12 and $6 for children 4 and under.

The weekend will also feature a “Zombie Town” Movie Night on Oct. 27 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m upstairs at the Capreol Arena. The fun continues Oct. 28 with a Family Scare Fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as The Magic of Christophe at 2 p.m.

Also available on Saturday is a scavenger hunt, pumpkin patch, best costume contest, and family activities (with treats!). Following an 8:15 p.m. Zombie Walk will be a low-noise fireworks display at the Capreol waterfront on Lakeshore Street starting at around 8:30 p.m.
