Independent candidate to run in Nickel Belt

Yves Villeneuve has announced his intention to run as an independent candidate in the Nickel Belt riding.

Yves Villeneuve has announced his intention to run as an independent candidate in the Nickel Belt riding.

A former student of the commerce program at Laurentian University, Villeneuve, 39, said he is proud of his family's roots in Nickel Belt, and wants to ensure issues unique and important to the area are not forgotten in Ottawa.

"My principal interest in politics has always been founded on pushing for better policies resulting in lasting positive differences in the lives of Canadians," he said in a news release.

Villeneuve intends on pursuing many policies supported by current Nickel Belt MP Ray Bonin, who announced his decision to retire a few months ago, and wants to forge ahead with the veteran politician's private member's bill for the "creation of a criminal victim's ombudsman" if he's elected.

Villeneuve welcomes comments and suggestions on his campaign at www.capreolonline.com. Anyone wishing to contact him can also send an email to [email protected].
