Federal funds earmarked for Sudbury’s homeless will mean extra warming centre hours at the Samaritan Centre. This, according to a release from the City of Sudbury.

New Hope Outreach currently operates a drop-in resource centre upstairs at the Samaritan Centre (344 Elgin St.) from 1 to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, and now, drop-in centre hours have been extended to include 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., from Monday to Friday, and 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

The extended hours  went into effect January 23, and run through until April 30.

The Samaritan Centre drop-in centre can accommodate 25 individuals at a time and offers access to warm space, washrooms, coffee, internet, computers, phones and support. Other services offered within the Samaritan Centre building include free meals, showers and laundry services. Client Navigators also meet with individuals at this location to navigate the path to permanent housing.

Funding for the additional daytime and weekend drop-in hours is through additional federal Reaching Home funding received to support Winter 2023-24 Unsheltered Homelessness Response.

A portion of this funding also went to Grace Family Church and their warming centre, which holds space for 30 people.
