Snowmobile season draws to an end

Although it got off to a bit of a late start, this year's snowmobile season was almost on par with previous years, said the president of the Sudbury Trail Plan Association. “We're slowly drawing to a close,” Chuck Breathat told NorthernLife.

Although it got off to a bit of a late start, this year's snowmobile season was almost on par with previous years, said the president of the Sudbury Trail Plan Association.

“We're slowly drawing to a close,” Chuck Breathat told NorthernLife.ca Wednesday.

That day, only about 10 per cent of the Greater Sudbury trail system remained open.

The Trail Plan Association has pulled the stakes on most water bodies that make up the trail system.

Breathat said the trails usually open around Jan. 10 most years, but were delayed to Jan. 15 this year, mostly due to milder-than-normal weather during the early winter.

The trails usually close around March 21.

Thanks to early bird registrations, Breathat said Sudbury Trail Plan Association membership numbers did not suffer from a slightly shorter than normal season.
