A disturbing report Thursday about a suspicious white van cruising around the Valley area with the driver trying to engage children in conversation was a hoax, Greater Sudbury Police said Saturday. In a news release, Det. Sgt.

Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré will be hosting a pair of open houses next week. The open houses will be held on Jan. 20 and 21 at his Val Caron and Sturgeon Falls offices respecitvely. Both open houses will be two hours in length, starting at 11 a.m.

The City of Greater Sudbury issued the following traffic report today: Bridge inspections will result in temporary lane closures today through to Nov. 6 and then again on Nov. 9. Lane closures will be alternating.

Students and staff at École Jean-Paul II in Val Caron met some of their friendly local municipal politicians Oct. 28. Mayor Brian Bigger and Ward 5 Coun. Robert Kirwan paid the school a visit.

Culvert repairs will close one lane in each direction on Main Street in Val Caron, near Fire Road 7, starting on Oct. 13. Three culverts will be repaired followed by final road restoration and paving. Work is expected to be completed by Oct.

Greater Sudbury Fire Services responded to a fire at a recreation facility in Val Caron at around 2 p.m. on Oct. 7. The estimated damage to the building was $2,500 with light smoke and fire damage contained to one storey of the building.

A locally-produced film shot in the fall of 2014 in Azilda and Valley East will be screened at Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival at 9 p.m. Sept. 20.

A little bit of rain didn't discourage 14-year-old Tanner Levesque from taking to the streets on his bicycle and pedalling from Val Therese to Bell Park.
