Driver with stolen licence plates now facing a pile of charges

A Toronto man is facing a slew of charges after the Ontario Provincial Police reports the man was pulled over on Highway 69 near Greater Sudbury driving a vehicle with stolen licence plates.

Shortly before 4 p.m. on Dec. 30, police said members from the North East Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) Team were on general patrol when their Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system alerted them to a vehicle with a stolen licence plate travelling on Highway 69 in Burwash Township, south of Sudbury.

Police conducted a traffic stop and the driver was arrested. OPP said a search of the vehicle located unmarked cigarettes, drug paraphernalia and drugs suspected to be methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and cannabis.

A 42-year-old Toronto man was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - three counts
  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Drive motor vehicle - no licence
  • Possess more than one licence
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Possess unmarked cigarettes

The accused was held for bail court, and was to appear in court Jan. 2 in Sudbury.
