Further charges laid in pirated DVDs investigation

As a result of an ongoing investigation regarding individuals selling alcohol, and cigarettes, and producing and selling pirated DVDs from their Front Street residence in Massey, Espanola OPP officers have laid additional charges against the trio.

As a result of an ongoing investigation regarding individuals selling alcohol, and cigarettes, and producing and selling pirated DVDs from their Front Street residence in Massey, Espanola OPP officers have laid additional charges against the trio.

Back on March 2, officers executed a search warrant on at their residence where a total of 5,000 pirated DVD’s were seized along with a number of satellite receivers, computer and electronic equipment and other offence-related property.

Charlene Phillips, 41, Leonard Phillips, 35 and Mark Caldwell, 21, all from Massey are charged with: 15 counts under the Radiocommunication Act, 20 counts under the Copyright Act, one count under the Tobacco Tax Act and 15 counts of possession of device to obtain telecommunication.

They are scheduled to appear in Espanola Court on June 3.
 
The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the RCMP and Revenue Canada.
