Police charge two with DUI after early-morning incidents Saturday

Two people are facing impaired driving charges after Greater Sudbury Police were called to two incidents within a few minutes of each other early Saturday morning.

First, at 4:57 a.m., Greater Sudbury Police's Uniform Division responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Montee Rouleau, in Azilda.  

“Police attended and located a motor vehicle that had left the roadway and crashed into a rock cut, causing extensive damage,” said a police news release Saturday. “The lone occupant, who was the driver, displayed signs of being Impaired by alcohol and was arrested for Impaired driving.”

He was taken to police headquarters, where he provided breath samples that were well in excess of the legal limit, the release said. 

“As a result, a 22-year-old male stands charged with impaired driving and excess over 80 mgs,” the release said. 

He is scheduled to appear in court at the end of August to answer to the charges. 

The second incident took place at 5:08 a.m. Police were called to Riverside Drive in Dowling after being notified that a man was on the roadway, passed out at the wheel of his running motor vehicle.  

“Police attended and awoke the lone male seated in the driver’s seat,” the release said. “This male displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol and was arrested for having Care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired.”

He also was taken downtown and provided breath samples that were well in excess of the legal limit, police said.  The 23-year-old man is charged with having care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired. He is scheduled to appear in court at the end of August to answer to the charges.
