The provincial government has provided the Greater Sudbury Police Service with $520,864 to fund 22 additional police officers.
The funds represent the second installment for the 2007-08 fiscal year of the province's share of the annual salary costs for the police service.
"Sudburians deserve safe communities. We made a commitment to help communities hire more police officers and we continue to deliver on that commitment," said Rick Bartolucci, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services, in a release.
"Community safety remains a key priority for the McGuinty government. I am pleased that the government is continuing to support policing in Greater Sudbury as a part of our commitment to help fund 2,000 police officers across Ontario."
