An Onaping Falls man had his driver's licence suspended after Sudbury OPP report they caught him stunt driving on Highway 17 on April 1.

In a press release, police said that just after 4 p.m. officers spotted an eastbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and as a result was stopped for stunt driving.

During the traffic stop, it was determined the male driver had consumed alcohol. A roadside breath test was administered, which police report resulted in the driver blowing in the “warn range.”

The driver, a 44-year-old man from Onaping Falls, was charged with race a motor vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused driver’s licence was suspended for three days and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury, on May 16.

Every person convicted of Race a Motor Vehicle is liable to a fine of not less than $2,000 and not more than $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or to both, in addition to his or her driver’s licence being suspended.

The OPP is reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol or drug consumption when driving.

Anyone who suspects a driver is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
