Spot checks result in impaired charges, license suspensions

UPDATE - Another 350 vehicles were also stopped during the evening of July 18 to conduct random checks for impaired drivers in Lively, Chelmsford, Hanmer and Sudbury.

Two drivers who attempted to avoid the check points were stopped by Greater Sudbury Police. One was found to be impaired and was arrested and charged. The other was charged with driving without a license.

Another driver was stopped by officers who were out on regular patrols and found to be impaired. He also faces impaired driving charges.

Approximately 400 drivers went through impaired driving spot checks in Sudbury and Hanmer during the evening of July 17.

Two drivers were charged with impaired driving, and four drivers received 72 hour warning suspensions.

One of the drivers who received a suspension was a G2 license holder who was volunteering to be the designated driver for the evening.
