Local girl named America's Young Dancer of the Year

A young Greater Sudbury dancer was named America's Young Dancer of the Year earlier this month.

Nine-year-old Kaylee Cacciotti, who trains at Happiness is Dancing Performing Arts Studio, showcased her award-winning tap dance routine July 2-8 at the American Dance Awards 2008 National Championships in Boston, Massachusetts.

A young Greater Sudbury dancer was named America's Young Dancer of the Year earlier this month.

Nine-year-old Kaylee Cacciotti, who trains at Happiness is Dancing Performing Arts Studio, showcased her award-winning tap dance routine July 2-8 at the American Dance Awards 2008 National Championships in Boston, Massachusetts.

As the dancer of the year, she received $500, a tiara, induction into America's Dancer Hall of Fame, flowers and a national champion jacket.

The American Dance Awards National Championships is one of the most prestigious and high caliber competitions in North America. There were over 1,000 competitors from 88 dance studios in Canada, the United States and Africa at the competition.

Other students at Happiness is Dancing also did well at the competition

-Alyssa Roy, 14, won a pirouettes competition among students 12-18 years old. She performed 14 straight turns. She also placed third overall in the 13-14 age category for general dance. She received ultimate gold placements in all four routines.

-Zoe Cacciotti, 4, placed second overall in the age six and under division for her ballet solo.

-Mitchell Jackson, 18, competed in the Male Dancer of the Year division with over 30 competitors. He received gold placements in all routines and received two special recognitions from judges for his passion and energy.
