Local musicians have stepped up to support Steelworkers Local 6500 strike with Vale Inco. Guitarist Billy John will be one of several local musicians performing in support of Steelworkers Local 6500 this Saturday, Feb. 27 at 6:30 p.m.

Greater Sudbury has a champion of the arts in Roger Nash, according to city officials, politicians and poets, who were on hand to celebrate the city’s newly designated poet laureate at the Main Library on Feb. 25.

Ottawa poet Susan McMaster will be the guest speaker Feb. 26 at a LUMINARIES Reading Series event. The event takes place at 7:30 p.m. in the Brenda Wallace Reading Room at Laurentian University’s J.N. Desmarais Library.

Greater Sudbury police chief Frank Elsner presented a cheque for $500 through the Chief’s Youth Initiative Fund to the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign. Donations help fund YMCA programming for at-risk youth and families.
