Officers are investigating an assault that occurred shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of Notre Dame and Ste. Anne’s Road.

Greater Sudbury Police Service officers are currently on Treeview Road, in the city's south end area, investigating fallen wires crossing the street.

BY MARIE LITALIEN Almost a year after the Ontario Court of Appeal acquitted Steven Truscott of the 1959 rape and murder of 12-year-old Lynne Harper, the Ontario government announced this week it will pay him $6.5 million for the injustices he faced.

Two males have been arrested on charges of child pornography. Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Division received information regarding two males involved in child pornography distribution and Internet online child abuse in June.

Update - Cassandra Burton has been located. The public’s assistance is requested in locating a 14-year-old missing female youth, Cassandra Burton, last seen on June 16, 2008.

BY JANET GIBSON Brenda Batisse, the 29-year-old Kirkland Lake woman who abducted a newborn from St. Joseph’s Health Centre last November, has lost her bid for bail as she awaits the appeal of her five-year prison sentence.

On Tuesday, May 27, at approximately 4:20 p.m. the Greater Sudbury Police Service investigated a serious motor vehicle collision on Falconbridge Highway in Garson near the first Baptist Church.

In the early evening hours on Friday, police were dispatched to the Rainbow Centre Mall for a disturbance. An altercation between two males occurred in the Sanfransico Store and eventually spilled into the common area of the mall.

As a result of a wedding stag in Levack Friday night, Greater Sudbury Police were kept busy dealing with a series of alcohol-related criminal offences.
