To open the 2009-10 hockey season, the Sudbury Wolves have launched a new website, at www.sudburywolves.com.

Justin Bonhomme, of Sudbury's Top Glove Boxing Academy, will represent Canada and Sudbury at the Francophone Games in Beirut, Lebanon, beginning Sept. 27. He earned the spot after winning the final team selection event in February in Edmonton.

On Oct. 4, the Sudbury Wolves will be walking to support Cpl. Bill Kerr, a Sudbury soldier who was seriously wounded in Afghanistan. “The Sudbury Wolves are honoured to assist and participate in the Hike for a Hero walk.

The Sudbury Wolves kicked-off the 2009-10 campaign with two losses on their home-opener weekend. On Friday night, the team fell to the Erie Otters 4-3. The Otters dominated the play early in the game, finishing the first period with a 1–0 lead.

The Laurentian Lady Vees and Voyageurs soccer teams will be heading to Kingston to face both the Queen's Gaels and RMC Paladins this weekend. The teams will face off against the Gaels on Sept. 19 and take on the Paladins on Sept. 20.

Sudbury Wolves forwards Eric O'Dell and Jared Staal have been returned to the Wolves by their respective NHL teams, and will be suiting up for the Wolves in their home-opener, Sept. 18, against the Erie Otters. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Following in the footsteps of the first marathon runners, Taylor Shantz will run from the beaches of Marathon to Athens, Greece this November, in an effort to meet her fundraising goal of $20,000 for diabetes research.

Sudbury Jr. Wolves head coach Dave Clancy has high expectations for this year's season. The team has a great group of veterans returning from last year, such as Chris Kangas and Chris Pontes, according to Jr. Wolves president Blaine Smith.

The City of Greater Sudbury is offering weekly free swims at each one of its pools between Sept. 18 and Feb. 14, 2010.

The Kal Tire Jr. Wolves got their first win of the season Sept. 16, with a 5-3 win over the North Bay Trappers.
